From August 4 to 8, as part of the MoRe4nature project, students from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, the National Aviation University, and Kherson State University conducted field research in the Pokuttya Carpathians.
For four days, the MoRe4nature team, in collaboration with scientists from Hutsulshchyna National Nature Park, studied the mid-mountain ecosystems of the park and its surrounding areas. The students were trained to use modern geoinformation systems for environmental monitoring, including the SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool).
They tested a custom-built data model on “environmental violations” developed within the project, documented cases of illegal logging and household pollution, and revisited permanent monitoring plots featuring old-growth spruce forests and European stone pine.
The field work concluded with a visit to the park’s Science and Education Center and the Hutsulik Horse Center, where participants learned about the park’s research activities and even experienced horseback riding on the traditional Hutsul breed.
The young participants demonstrated a high level of engagement, creativity, and scientific curiosity.
We thank everyone who contributed to this initiative — together we’re making meaningful steps to protect the Carpathians!
