Our partners at Democracy International are looking for an active, motivated, and open-minded individual to join the European Solidarity Corps Program, which will start in March 2025, last for 12 months, and require on-site work in Cologne, Germany.
What does the program offer?
- Participation in democratic projects aimed at engaging youth in civic activities.
- The chance to learn how to work with direct democracy tools, such as the European Citizens’ Initiative and Citizens’ Assemblies.
- Collaboration with an international team in Cologne and travel opportunities across EU countries.
- Training in moderation, event organization, project writing, and reporting.
A monthly stipend of €500, as well as coverage for:
- accommodation,
- transport,
- insurance.
You’ll live in a shared apartment with another volunteer or flatmates. You’ll have a private room, shared kitchen, and bathroom, along with all necessary furniture and appliances. The accommodation will be in a safe area with convenient public transport to the office.
What will you do?
- Strengthen democracy in the European Union: study democratic principles, direct democracy tools, and civic participation, along with their benefits and challenges.
- Implement projects: organize events like the Democracy Camp, create websites, write blogs, manage social media, and coordinate with partners.
- Promote youth engagement: develop new projects focused on involving young people in democracy, and write grant applications.
- Work as a team: contribute to developing and executing ideas, assist in moderating discussions and conducting workshops, and provide administrative support.
- Monitor and report: analyze project outcomes and prepare reports for the EU.
- Manage finances: assist with maintaining documentation in compliance with funding requirements.
Your work will combine activities in the Democracy International office in Cologne, remote tasks, and European travel to attend events.
Training and Development
- Gain a deep understanding of democracy tools, such as Citizens’ Assemblies or the European Citizens’ Initiative.
- Learn to moderate discussions and conduct events.
- Explore all aspects of youth project management – from idea creation to implementation.
Eligibility
- Aged 18–30 years.
- Residing in Ukraine or another program-participating country.
- Able to travel abroad for 12 months.
- Possess a biometric passport and ability to obtain the necessary visa.
- Preferable: education or experience related to democracy, civic participation, or ecology.
- English language proficiency at B2 or above (mandatory).
- Willingness to work in a team, participate in project activities, and interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
