On November 16, 2023, the online seminar “Cultural Heritage: Open Air Museums in the Carpathian Region” was held. This is the second seminar in a series of planned educational events to share the experience of the Visegrad countries with Ukrainian students. In his welcoming remarks, project manager Taras Kovalchuk recalled the goals and objectives of the project and introduced the speaker of the event, Michal Medek, director of the Czech Institute for Heritage Interpretation.

In his presentation, Mr. Medek shared his thoughts on how the work of a guide with a disinterested audience differs from teaching at school and why this is so. He also shared his ideas on how non-formal education in the natural environment has evolved and what current views dominate in this area. The discussion that followed the presentation paved the way for the undergraduate students to come up with new ideas on how to combine the presentation with their own personal experiences. The participants briefly discussed methods for developing educational trails, visitor centers, and other interpretive programs. A video recording of the online seminar is available here:

The seminar is one of the planned series of events within the framework of the NECU project “Education for Sustainable Development: Sharing the Experience of V4 Countries for the Recovery of Ukraine”, which is supported by the Visegrad Fund.
