On 20 April 2023, the CitiObs team joined the roundtable “Restoration of ecosystems damaged by military operations and other anthropogenic impacts” within the framework of the conference “Environmental Security of the State” of the National Aviation University.
The interests of the NECU were represented at this event by Inna Tymchenko, Deputy Head of the Mykolaiv Branch.
In her presentation, Inna highlighted the topic of community participation in post-war reconstruction, using the example of Mykolaiv region. She spoke about the consequences of the war for the Kutsurubska and Ochakivska communities, for soil and nature reserves, as well as ways to restore them.
Inna also emphasised community participation in environmental restoration and the implementation of innovative community observatories to monitor environmental parameters in communities as part of the CitiObs project.
The presentation also emphasized that communication with communities is a necessary element of successful cooperation in restoration.
Communities are becoming more environmentally conscious, and their concerns and needs should be considered in the recovery process.
In general, the event was very informative and informative.
